Today, if people had to choose between kindness of heart and material
success, the choice would be rapidly done. Because the world we live in today
doesn't teach or motivates us to entertain the beauty of our souls.
Successful
people are thus considered as a universal model of what to be and what to
become.
There
is nothing wrong in being successful, let it be clear! And in some ways,
success is somewhat of a self achievement.
But
what is being successful if your soul if rotten to the bone (souls don't have
bones, I know).
Gandhi is one of the valuable men of humanity remembered for his core values and for the extreme beauty of his soul. |
Steve
Jobs, one of the universal models of success, had written in a letter (of which
I neither can confirm the authenticity nor the fact that these were actually
his words) the futile aspect of researching only material
success.
“I
reached the pinnacle of success in the business world. In others’ eyes, my life
is an epitome of success.
However,
aside from work, I have little joy. In the end, wealth is only a fact of life
that I am accustomed to.At this moment, lying on the sick bed and
recalling my whole life, I realize that all the recognition and wealth
that I took so much pride in, have paled and become meaningless in the
face of impending death. In the darkness, I look at the green lights from the
life supporting machines and hear the humming mechanical sounds, I can
feel the breath of god of death drawing closer…Now I know, when we have
accumulated sufficient wealth to last our lifetime, we should pursue other
matters that are unrelated to wealth…
Should
be something that is more important:
Perhaps
relationships, perhaps art, perhaps a dream from younger days.
Non-stop pursuing of wealth will only turn a person
into a twisted being, just like me.”
Now, there seems to be a myth around the necessity of having an authoritative character for success. And maybe there is a part of truth in this myth. But the fact is that there are a lot
of successful people that we do not know as much as the ones considered as
success references, which yet remain humble, caring, loyal and loving.

Now, as far as we are concerned, who is this person we want to be remembered for? A person that people admire for our material success or someone appreciated for our gentle heart and for beautiful core values?
Would
you rather be liked for what you have, or respected and admired for what you did and for who you are?
Knowing that most of the time, being loved for who you are involves being
appreciated for the things that you did, while being liked for what you have only takes the moment you have your possessions.
Taking
Gandhi and Rockefeller for instance, whom of them do you think people will have
more tenderness and real admiration for?
Whose
story will serve more as a life reference? Whose name and story was mentioned
in the story books?
And
from which one of the both will the humanity inherit more benefit?

That
is why today, I want to give a special tribute to all these beautiful souls of
the world who have contributed to really bring a positive change. I want to pay
a special herald to those people
who have by their gentleness brought sun in the daily lives of the humanity,
colored butterflies in the darkness, spark in the eyes of children, smiles on sad
faces, hope in the darkest tunnels and inspiration for the lost souls, to those
people who have inspired not only for the things they did but for the person
they are, whatever their position, singers, artists, religious people, doctors,
teachers, or simply parents or loving friends...
By
your countless love, patience, courage, quest of justice, care and concern,
today I know better the kind of person I want to be remembered for. ©
